Weekend Crochet

Feeling the need for change over the weekend I have picked up my crochet hook.

I came across a stunning lacy hexagon motif in a Japanese crochet book but have had issues tracking down a copy of the book.

Much Obsessed! and since my crochet skills are average to say the least I decided to enlist the help from a few crochet guru friends.

After a lot of investigating, reading, searching, playing, tweeking I have got something that I am happy with.

Now just to create LOTS of them, oh and work out the best way to attach them!

I have been collecting Cotton Fleece colours for the past 6 months for a Babette Blanket for my girls beds.

Loved the idea of a portable project but couldn’t work out how to lug around 1.7kg of yarn so over the weekend I sat down and measured the amounts that I need for each of the two round squares and bundled them up into little mini skeins.

(yes…I know, I have a problem. I guess I shouldn’t mention that I also have the whole pattern on a spreadsheet with all of my colours set out…)

I am making myself skein, crochet, weave in ends a small batch each time so that I don’t have hours of finishing left a the end.

Really can’t say enough about Cotton Fleece and the colours….!I will admit this is a long term project but I would possibly like it finished this winter.

Will see...

Lest We Forget...

Remembrance Day (11 November) marks the anniversary of the end of the First World War (1914–18). Each year Australians observe one minute silence at 11am on 11 November, in memory of those who died or suffered in all wars and armed conflicts.

The Poppy has long been a part of Remembrance Day, in honer of the fallen I whipped up a couple of Poppies this morning.

Procrastination

[noun] the act of procrastinating; putting off or delaying or deferring an action to a later time...

You know that feeling you have when there is so much to do that you don't know where to start?

My solution...a little instant gratification!

I whipped up this adorable little crocheted necklace last night using two different colours of Jo Sharp SoHo Cotton and a sweet little button.

It also doubles as a hair accessory. Perfect gift and stash buster!

Reality Bites!

Ok...

So I was being a little optimistic thinking that between two children, the shop and my other knitting desires that I would finish two
Simple Yet Effective Shawls this months Knit-A-Long.

All it took was an email from a lovely
Ravelry friend to plant the seed of using my two Noro Silk Garden colours together in the one shawl. Isn't Donyale's 'Smile' stunning!?

Friday night they were both ripped and re-balled ready for cast on. This time I am alternating between the two colours (272 and 279) every two rows instead of every four.

I love stripes but I have come to the conclusion that I prefer finer stripes to wider stripes

I am still sticking to the same number of repeats in stocking stitch and garter stitch sections as per the pattern.

So far I am much in love...

Double Take!

Just because I love to juggle multiple projects I have cast on two versions of this months Tangled Yarns KAL.

During November we are knitting the stunning Cosmicpluto Simple Yet Effective Shawl.

I have had a soft spot for this colour of Noro Silk Garden Sock (279 ) for some time now so it was the obvious choice for me...

That was until I received our shipment of new colours! This is 272, isn't it just divine!? The colours are me all over - blacks, greys, greens, turquiose and the softest hint of a lavendar purple.

So...I have two Simple Yet Effective Shawls cast on for November. Now just to see if I mange to complete one, or two?

I would love to have you join me this month!

By simply purchasing either the KAL Pattern or the KAL Kit from my online store (or instore) and emailing me a finished project photo by the end of the month you will go into the draw to win Novembers KAL Prize which is the Cosmicpulto Milkweed Shawl and Eki Riva Alpaca Kit in the colour of your choice (colour to be picked from our instock yarn)

Little Knits

One of the many joys of having little girls is that I get to make little knits!
Two new projects off my needles in past weeks -

Spring Garden Tee by Never Not Knitting

This was the Tangled Yarns Knit-A-Long for October, the pattern is very well written was an utter pleasure to knit.

Looks like my littlest Miss approves.

Another sweet knit. There are a lot of design elemants that I liked in this pattern but there is several components that I would change if I was to knit it again. I also found the sizing is most possibly out, as you can see this is a little big for Miss A.

However with no gauge supplied with the pattern it is a little hard to check.

The yarn on the other hand is just divine, super soft even for a cotton. I have another project in mind and hope to cast on as soon as I finish a few current projects.
